Automized: The Green Light Project

The University Student Government and the Mechanical Engineering Society of De La Salle University will be holding an advocacy-based car show competition entitled “Automized: The Green Light Project”. This two-day car show will be held at the Philippine National Bank (PNB) Main Office grounds along Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard, Pasay City on March 17-18, 2012.
In partnership with PNB, the car show aims to raise funds for the Child Friendly Spaces Project of the University Student Government.
The event will run from 9am to 10pm on the first day and 8am to 10pm on the second day; and will showcase various talents, interest and hobbies of car enthusiasts, particularly those from the Lasallian community.
The event will feature performers, exhibitors and car dealers. Guests may also avail of great deals through PNB’s special auto loan rates during the event.
Organizational Roles
The University Student Government (USG) recognizes its vital role in promoting students’ holistic formation through different programs and activities aimed to address the needs and interests of the students, including community development projects. On the other hand, the Mechanical Engineering Society (MES) is the professional organization of Mechanical Engineering students, which caters to the needs and interests of their members, including organizing car shows, which are in line with their field of profession.

Child Friendly Spaces
This year, in line with the University’s mission of bridging faith and scholarship in service of the poor, the USG, together with the DLSU Center for Social Concern and Action spearheaded the Child Friendly Spaces Project. It is an advocacy in line with the UN Millennium development goals to give safety and security to the children in deprived communities by creating child friendly spaces for them. The space consists of a daycare, study area, mini library and a computer room. The first child friendly space was constructed this school year in Baranggay 704 in Malate Manila. Through the project, the USG may be able to attain sustainability of their efforts not only to help the children but the community as a whole. Together with MES through the Automized 2012: The Greenlight Project, they plan to expand and create more child friendly spaces in the upcoming school year.

The Mushroom Burger in Tagaytay

Last January 21, my family and other relatives decided to go to Tagaytay to enjoy the long weekend.  We stayed in Bali Village Resort, which is just walking distance to The Mushroom Burger restaurant.  My cousins and I decided then to try the place.

Mushroom burgers are not new to me, as I have tried one before in ECHOstore.  The small sized burger was priced at 200 Pesos each.  I quite liked the taste; however, for a student like me, it was a bit too pricy.  Maybe it was because the store was in The Fort or maybe just because organic foods are expensive.

However, my experience in The Mushroom Burger was different.  The place was not as sophisticated as ECHOstore.  The atmosphere was casual.  However, what really surprised me was the price of their burgers.  The prices ranged from 30 to 100 Pesos.  I cannot believe that an organic food can be this affordable.  I tried the Royal Mushroom Burger that has an egg in it and found it satisfying.

The Mushroom Burger is a testament that organic foods do not have to be expensive.  Organic foods can even taste better than other non-organic foods.  Moreover, it is much healthier and comes from productions that do not contaminate the environment.  Hence, it is beneficial to our body and to our surroundings.  Organic foods even sustain our environment since the farms it came from do not use harmful chemical and pesticides, which are two of the many things that destroy the environment.

I hope that Filipinos find the importance of organic foods and start supporting such foods.  The cost maybe too big for now but the long-term results will definitely something beneficial for everyone.
